The Sandman – a triathlon across Anglesey

Every September The Sandman Triathlon takes place on Anglesey/ Ynys Môn. 

The race starts and ends at Newborough, a pictureqsue forest and breath-takingingly beautiful beach, which is a perfect spot for your supporters to watch from.

The Sandman gets its name from the last 1.5km of this race, a tough run across the sand to the finish line.

 

Some like to think of Anglesey as a flat island, but there are plenty of climbs and descents on the bike route that will keep participants on their toes. Starting in the heart of Newborough Forest with a climb up to the village of Newborough, the route cuts straight through the famous village of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.

The road takes you flying past traditional villages and green fields, the RAF Mona air base and the seaside towns of Rhosneigr and Aberffraw, with stunning views of the coast all along the cycling section. 

 

Newborough Forest once hosted the Commonwealth Mountain and Ultra Distance Running Championships so it’s safe to say the trails on this section are world class. Running through trees and catching glimpses of the sea and marshland within this forest is just magical.
