Our award-winning artisan smokery

We originally built our own artisan smokery in 2008 to add a savoury edge to our sea salt. The success of that first product made us experiment further and we now smoke other ingredients, including our Great Taste award-winning Oak Smoked Water. There is so much demand for these products – from the home cook to ready meal makers to Michelin starred restaurants – that we now employ four local people year-round in the smokery, as part of our twenty five strong team, paying the Real Living Wage. 

Community is at the heart of Halen Môn and everything we do is aimed at celebrating the resources and reputation of Anglesey. In line with this, our smokery was independently monitored on a daily basis for a full year by Ynys Môn county council, and it comfortably exceeded Wales’ quality air standards. 

We will always be a responsible business and continue to work with expert engineering consultants and specialist firms to ensure that we are as considerate and efficient as possible. Our building exceeds all technical specifications and demonstrates that we are going the extra mile to make our development a sensitive one. 

Sensitive development is a fundamental part of our B CORP company ethos, we are also BRC grade AA+ and our smokery is a key part of our award-winning Saltcote, Visitor Centre and Tide/Llanw café, all of which receive thousands of visitors a year. 

We exist in part to celebrate the incredible island that we call home, and we look forward to continuing to develop smoked products celebrating Anglesey’s abundant coastline, more partnerships with fellow Welsh food producers and more skilled team members, all helping us to achieve our next phase of innovative, sustainable growth over the coming decades.
