Our charity of the year 2025
Every year our team votes for a charity to raise funds for, and this year the organisation we have chosen is Shelter Cymru.
For Shelter Cymru, home is everything. Their team helps thousands of people each year across Wales who are affected by the housing emergency, facing homelessness or debt, by offering free, confidential and independent housing advice and campaigning to tackle the root causes of the housing emergency.
The housing emergency in Wales is affecting millions of lives. Shelter Cymru demands more social housing, improved protections for renters, and works closely with communities on the ground. They are predominantly an advice-giving charity, campaigning against homelessness and for the prevention of homelessness.
Each time you shop with us online there’s the option to ‘round up’ and donate to our chosen charity, and every year we match your donations.
What does Shelter Cymru do?
- Online housing advice – they offer online advice pages that have up-to-date, expert housing advice about most housing problems.
- Face-to-face services – advice and support services across Wales giving people one-to-one, personalised help with all of their housing issues.
- Urgent advice helpline – their free emergency helpline is often the first port of call for people facing a housing crisis in Wales.
- Legal support – Shelter Cymru’s team of solicitors offer expert legal advice, help fight repossession and eviction, and can attend court to defend people who are at risk of losing their home.
Last year they helped 21,219 people in Wales and 292 here on Ynys Môn with their advice and support services. They were people living in every local authority in Wales, and across all forms of housing.
We are looking forward to fundraising for them this year.
