We’ve won gold stars at the Oscars of the food world!
We are so proud to say that, here at Halen Môn, we’re no stranger to a lovely review from the judges at the Great Taste Awards. The Oscars of the UK food industry, these judges know what they’re talking about so it means a lot to hear their thoughts on our award-winning products.
Our Oak Smoked Water was awarded 2 stars this year and the judges said:
“An interesting concept for a growing market. The flavour was fresh, clean and very balanced and we loved the oaky notes. Well done.”
“Neat, the nose offers a gently smoked aroma which is clean and natural smelling. The flavour is also clean when tasted neat. The smoke is prevalent but well balanced and this is a great flavour enhancer without chemicals and additives. You can taste a minerality to the water. Mixed into mayonnaise the flavour held its own but also added a savoury note which was very pleasant on the palate. A cleverly made and interesting product which has clearly been produced with expertise.”
“A heady wood smoke, log fires spring to mind. Tasted on its own it is a powerful ingredient, full of smoke flavour and clean; when added to other foods you can see its versatility.”
Umami No.2 was also awarded it’s first start this year and the judges said:
“This is a good array of ingredients with an aroma from the yeast. It is a very well-balanced savoury seasoning with all the different ingredients working in harmony to give great savoury taste which would pimp up lots of different dishes.”
“These are attractive-looking fine granules with a lovely variation of colours in the mix. There is plenty of cumin on the nose. On tasting, there is a burst of flavour from the salt then the cheesiness from the yeast and warmth from the spices leaving a gentle amount of heat on the finish. It is truly an umami moment on the tongue. This would add flavour and nutrients to your dish, which has to be good. It would be versatile in any kitchen, to season many dishes, as a topping, in bouillon or even as a garnish for vegetables or to dip your radishes or celery in. We like this and feel it is worthy of a star.”
