At this time of year, a lot of online food articles turn to trends. What’s going to be the avocado, quinoa or maple water of 2016? Are we over salted caramel, small-batch gins and smoked everything? Thankfully, Kelly Molloy, food buyer at our favourite, Harvey Nichols, thinks the answer to the latter question is no. Phew. In fact, in this interview at cooked.com, she lists our salt as one of the 5 ‘must-have’ food items of the year, and mentions that the smoked category is still ever popular in her world-famous department store. You can read the full article here.
If you’re looking for something delicious to sip whilst you read, try HM Hamish’s Smoked Negroni. This play on a classic cocktail, said to have been created first in Florence, when a count tweaked his usual Americano (campari, sweet red vermouth and soda) by swapping the soda for gin, is famous for its bitter strength and deliciousness.
Hamish’s Smoked Negroni
30ml gin (we like Chase gin)
30ml Martini Rosso
5 drops smoked water
Orange for garnish
Pour all the ingredients except the orange peel over ice into a mixing glass. Stir and strain into a chilled glass. If you prefer a longer drink, serve over ice.
Garnish with a twist of orange peel.
