Just around the corner from Ty Halen, our new Saltcote, is one quarter of an extraordinary outdoor summer art installation, ‘Four on Anglesey.’ This project has seen four striking 2.5m canvases placed in the four corners of the salty isle, each painting in amongst the surroundings it depicts.
The one nearest to us – just a 15 minute walk away from our offices – is of the famous view to Caernarfon Castle, framed by stunning farmland and Snowdonia. We are ashamed to say that, although the paintings have been in place since March, it took us until one sunny late-August evening to go and see our first one.
Painted by renowned Anthony Garratt, the canvas is very dramatic and very beautiful. Menai Holiday Cottages, who have sponsored the project, say they are hoping the artworks will ‘encourage people to explore the beauty and diversity of the Anglesey landscape, enjoy being outside and provide a creative and thought-provoking take on each side of the spectacular island.’
We have until October to seek out the other three paintings. We have a feeling they will be worth it.
More information about where they are can be found on the Menai Holiday Cottages website.
