Celebrating the sea: how we can all protect the waters we love
As an organisation that relies on the incredible natural resources around our beautiful island, this World Ocean Day, we want to celebrate the seas all over the world, and share some ways we can all help protect the waters we rely on.

The magic of seaweed
A truly game-changing alga, seaweed holds many exceptional properties, from holding huge amounts of carbon underwater, to growing more quickly when harvested at the right time, to being wonderfully nourishing for our bodies and skin.

Protect our local rivers
The rivers in the UK need your help and the North Wales Rivers trust has some advice for everyone.
Start by:
- Replacing toxic cleaning products for eco-friendly products
- Installing a water butt or rain garden to save the day during droughts
- Ditching the wet wipes. Even the biodegradable ones can cause a mess in our sewage systems.
- Reducing your use of single use items will help reduce micro plastic contamination and reduce the harm on aquatic ecosystems.

Consider the fish you choose to eat
The big five species, cod, haddock, salmon, tuna and prawns, make up 80% of the fish and seafood we consume in the UK. While there are many MSC certified sustainable big five products available in the UK and Ireland, why not try swapping your favourite species for one caught around our waters?
